I have no idea why Aesthetics releases two PulseProgramming EPs at once instead of a regular CD. PulseProgramming is a multimedia collaboration between two musicians, a graphic artist, and a video/film artist. Both EPs are limited releases (1000 copies each) and are the upmark for their regular second CD. The difference between '1 of 2' and '2 of 2' is that '1' presents PulseProgramming's upbeat or frantic work, while '2' is more relaxed and calm. '2' is one of the most boring electronic records I have heard this year, but that does not necessarily mean this is one of the worst records I've heard this year. Does this mean PulseProgramming is the Kraftwerk of the 90s? Not exactly - these are two quite soothing EPs, featuring some nice post-Kraftwerk electro. You should have understood by now that PulseProgramming does not program dance nights at your local club. I think everyone will stop dancing as soon as you put PulseProgramming in between Phoenix and DJ Krust. Even the most upbeat song on '1' does not make your feet dance automatically. '1', especially track five (my favourite) would do better in the small hall of a large club where the less trendy electro and trance is played. Does this mean this is a difficult record? Well, if you're used to eurodance or the Billboard 100, this is indeed a very difficult record. But if you're used to more sensible electro like I-F or a Smooth recording record, this will fit right in your record collection. '2' would do better while you're getting some rest from the dancing you eventually might have done during '1'. Imagine a lounge (room) without lounge (music) with an aquarium. Next, imagine you're a fish floating freely through the ocean. Don't be scared of predators or fishermen, they're miles away. Especially enjoy track six, because with its piano leading tune, it's a little different from the rest of this calm and beautiful ocean. Got enough of the tranquillity? Then, turn back to '1', and be careful for those slow, but decisive fishermen.
