Contemporary gothic music has been dominated by electronic music for some years now. The most recent developments are in the field of neo-synth/electro-pop. This type of music is not to be compared and confused with the 80's genre with the same name. Contemporary electro-pop is techno and house-orientated and sounds often more poppy and mainstream than 80's synth/electro-pop(!).
Pulcher Femina is one of the contemporary acts that produce electro-pop for the gothic underground. They combine poppy sounds and catchy melodies with melancholic vocals (male and female). Shadows of the Lovers opens with the very nice Dark Clouds, which is an excellent dance track. Some tracks like Everywhere Was Cold and Dust sound a bit too theatrical and euphoric. But other songs like Nice Day and Autumn Wind have a very nice 80's feel, even though they have the obvious Wolfsheim-like sounds. The best (dancefloor) track is Scream & Die in a remixed version by Volker Lutz from Evil's Toy. This song has a strong and harsh beat, which most of the other songs lack.
The problem with Pulcher Femina is that their music is probably too poppy for the gothic underground and too dark for the mainstream. The band could evolve into one of those two directions and be equally successful. Just wait and see which way the band will take with their music.
