"What is feedback? - Both electric and soulful, feedback rises from the heart of an instrument, to create an ever-expanding loop of sound waves. It is as if the amplifier were answering itself, a conversation of both light and dark, spoken in a language like no other. A cosmic language maybe. Perhaps the planets create such a sound, the grinding of the rings of Saturn, the whisper of asteroids, the eternal hum and melody of a universe spinning out of control. Perhaps our souls respond to certain tones and sound waves out of some distant memory of our time in outer space."
With these words Dale Nixon starts an essay about the music presented on this CD. Pompous? Maybe. But after you have read this you will listen differently to this CD as before. Porn's efforts to create music out of heavily distorted guitars and screaming amps turns out quite different of the usual 'experiments in feedback' given to us by bands like Sonic Youth, Bardo Pond and Godspeed You Black Emperor!. Because of their southern- and stonerrock influences Porn's avant-gardistic eruptions not only brings back memories of the former bands, but also of acid- and spacerock of bands like Monster Magnet and Five Horse Johnson. This creates druggy and spaced-out soundscapes on which you (helped with the right stuff) could see visions of planets and comets flying by. But Porn doesn't only try to make you float in space with their music; they also have recorded some real rockers on this concept-EP. Listen to 'Outta Site' (which, in contrary to the other songs, only last 2.44) and their cover of Motörhead's 'Sister' to hear Porn play their filthy, powerful and guts-reaching rock. Besides 'Sister' the band also plays Pink Floyd's 'One Of These Days' and manages to extend it with almost 6 minutes and does it pretty convincing as well. Minor points are the appearance of 'Sister' for three times (one time, or maybe twice is enough) and the ever going, and therefore boring, 'Loop'. But for fans of Sonic Youth and Glenn Branca who also dig heavy stonerrock this record could be a revelation.
