Pluto Monkey | Little Brenda: Bluegrass Mission

Little Brenda isn't singing any bluegrass on this album - if she did, I would have passed it through to Twang!. Quite a shame actually, it could easily have made this album any better. Now we're stuck with two English guys (who are prolific songwriters, according to their biography) who tried to write and record an album within nine days. They succeeded in producing quantity, they failed miserably in producing quality. First of all, the vocals sound like Mick Jagger with a severe pneumonia (only the eighties-style backingvocals sound adequate). Second, they lack any kind of originality. Their pseudo-experimental popsongs are often heard before in better ways. Third, they think they're funny but they're not. Fourth, they can't write decent songs - although 'Rice Cake Rabbit Soul' is not that bad. But that says more about the rest of the songs. No, no, Brenda, I'm not impressed with your bluegrass. Please go home, I'm sure your mom misses you - you shouldn't have run away. You and your Bluegrass Mission are just not ready yet for the big bad world.
