Phuture 303's latest outing is intended mainly for those who like their bassdrums pounding away at 140 bpm minimum. The worst is feared when the album opens with a shameless remake of Lil Louis' untouchable 'Blackout' and doesn't even blink when on the titletrack Dj Pierre makes a cameo appearance for one of those acidic wildpitch rumblers that haven't changed shape in 7 years or so. The pace is only increased afterwards with the grinding Beltram and Mills-influenced hardgrooves of 'Riden' and the exquisite stomper 'Metal Percussions'. Old Detroit sounds resurface on the, in the context of this album, rather serene 'Mindpower', but then they spoil it all with 'Pro-Traxx Rhythm', a little bit too flagrant a remash of Beltram's 'The Start it Up'. Quality and experience come looking around the corner again with the two wildpitch excursions 'Tribal Trek' and '2001', although the latter's title surely must have given them a tough time. The Nu Chicago Techno of Dj Rush, finally, lets its repercussions ring in the chopped-up pianos of the -again- originally designated 'Broken Piano', which sounds a bit like Robert Hood who has lost his dear metronome. So: a little bit too hard, too fast and too forthcoming for my tastes and a little bit disappointing from such pioneering personalities, but it will nevertheless crash skulls on the dancefloor.
