Odd Job Discrimination is another chapter in the ubiquitous phenomenon called the remix album or in this case remix E.P. I have serious doubts about the merits of remix-albums in general, never can't escape the feeling that they are an effective way of getting some sure money from hardcore fans. Anyway, this CD collects six remixes of the Miami glitch-bass duo's track 'Odd Job' and as with all remix albums there is always one interpretation you'll love. In this case, Detroit's Adult delivers a storming retro-electro remix that confirms their status as upcoming coolest-name-to-drop-in-2002. Elsewhere Matmos do their thing and they do it well although already their method is becoming a glitch cliché (witness Dino Felipe's remix included here). Prefuse 73 (meandering glitch hop) and Otto von Schirarch (jump up glitch anyone?) fail to enchant while Jeswa plays it cool in a subdued Autechre style moment, nice but inconsequential. Strictly for fans yet also a worrying look at the state of glitch. It seems to be running out of ideas fast.
