Four new Persil songs on one EP: I guess it's their way of showing they're very much alive and working towards their full-length album. Their debut single Agony Aunt was picked up by BBC DJs Steve Lamacq and John Peel, and they even did a Peel Session. John Peel stated that he really appreciated the band, and that isn't really a surprise, because it is also well known that he really appreciates Solex. The connection: One half of this duo played drums in Sonetic Vet, where Elisabeth Esselink - also known as Solex - took care of the lead vocals. Furthermore, both are from Amsterdam. There is also some resemblance in the music due to the sweet and dreamy girl vocals and some computer music. But Persil don't use samples like Solex; the electronic sounds come out of two keyboards. Persil are at their best on Traces Of Knots, which starts off with a quite heavy pumping bass and a mysterious violin-like sound. The other three songs, including a Wedding Present cover (Kennedy), also show the capacities of the formation, but also make you wonder how it will appear on their first full-length. Let's hope we don't have to wait long before we can give our blessing to an upcoming sensation.
