"Guitar pop, influenced by the 1960s, is that really necessary?" is how the bio of Paper Moon's EP, entitled Stella, starts. "Yes," argues the bio, because Paper Moon's "melancholy and bittersweet songs" are "irresistible and timeless." I would also argue that Paper Moon is irresistible and timeless, but for other reasons. This music's been done so many times before, which is not a bad thing in itself if it is done properly and with good songs and strong lyrics, but Paper Moon offers just too little of this. What else is there to say? That their four songs are recorded and mixed by Daryll-Ann's Jelle Paulusma and Coen Paulusma, two gifted musicians able to write such excellent 1960s-influenced songs that their contribution almost becomes a necessity?
