Hey, a cello in the line-up, always interesting. It often gives some melancholic touches to the music, and with Orange Pecco this is also the case. The debut five-track EP from this Belgian five-piece came out earlier this year, and on this recording they provide some guitar-rock songs with some evident dEUS influences, mainly due to the voice of singer Phil who resembles Tom Barman more than just a bit. The music itself brings dEUS, but also Mogwai and Slint to mind, yet with less impressive songs. Don't get me wrong, Orange Pecco is not a bad band, but they don't have the compositoric edge that is necessary to make the difference in the music rat-race. The cello needs to get a bigger role, and the percussion player isn't getting much airplay either. Obviously there is potential in Orange Pecco, and I hope it comes out better next time.
