This release has been recorded in the fall of '99 but has just recently been distributed in Europe. The band has been around for more than six years. But "Rise of the underdog" is only their debut album. This has probably something to do with the fact, that there have been numerous line-up changes and a case of bad luck. 5 years ago they wanted to do a split-CD with a band called Built Upon Frustration, but that band split up so the release was cancelled. Well, most of their lyrics are about the theme B.F.L. (Brothers For Life). The songs who aren't about B.F.L. are all tough-guy-related subjects. You can probably describe their music as a slower but heavier Hatebreed/Mushmouth/Figure Four. The vocals of Frank Pointek are really sick. If No retreat would split up in the future or something, he could immediately start his own death-metal band! On the song "Brothers for life" Karl Weinbrecht from Krutch does some guest vocals. And Chris Hensel from Mushmouth sings his part on "Fate". I can imagine that not every hardcorefan would like this band, but if you are into the more extreme stuff you ought to listen to this CD.
