New Wet Kojak sound like the Fun Lovin' Criminals want to sound. A smooth mix of 80s pop and lounge jazz with a dark rock'n'roll centre. This is music by fast-talking ladies' men in Italian suits. Scott McCloud's (together with bass player Johnny Temple also in GvsB) vocals drip with sarcasm. They are contrasted with Charles Benning's smooth saxophone and Geoff Turner's poppy keyboards. Absolute highlight is 'Do the Math', which is driven by a pumping bassline overlayed with Morphine-style saxophone. Like everything on this EP, it is fascinating and revolting at the same time. In the end, the fascination wins, because this is high quality stuff, even though it is way too clever for its own good. "These are the rules of the game: Go for the overkill."
