Surprisingly the best nu jazz is coming from Germany. Micatone is no exception. Even better: some tracks on "Ninesongs" are brilliant. Micatone is Boris Meinhold (electronics and guitar), Paul Kleber (doublebass and percussion), Tim Kroker (drums) and Lisa Bassenge (vocals). The later is an angel. Just listen to her voice in the superb jazzy "Step Into The Gallery" which is indeed one of the best tracks I heard this year. Micatone is capable in making nu jazz sounding like real jazz or playing funky as hell ("Playmobile Soldier" and "Run"). The only track that deviates in quality is the one dimensional "A Part Of Me" that sounds too direct, too beat driven. "Ninesongs", that also contains a guest appearance of David Friendman on vibraphone, is one of the best albums of this year!
