Markant is the label of German-based producer Carsten Endrass, who got very good critiques in the leading music magazines all over the world for his challenging ambient electronics. After more than 25 releases in three years' time, 'Infram' is the first full-length CD that is released by Markant. The ten songs on 'Infram' are of the same beauty of Endrass' former work: spherical soundscapes, haunting distorted beats and basslines, melancholic melodies. The beats and melodies make Markant's music sound different from that of ambient acts like Muslimgauze or Black Lung, who are much more orientated towards dark soundscapes and less interested in a strange mix of melody and minimal loops. Take, for example, the estranging 'Chiemsee', where a melodic piano piece is accompanied by a lightly distorted funky beat that is getting slightly more dominant. Or the hectic 'Sturmwarning', in which classical music is absorbed by wide scattered synths and deep distorted basslines. 'Infram' is a pleasant journey into the strange world of Endrass' music. Let's hope we are going to hear much more from Markant.
