Quietly but steadily reaching the apex of his production skills, Mark Ambrose finally delivers his first masterpiece in the form of this essential doublepack. Our Raider of the Lost Groove departs in great form with ‘Destiny Angel’ putting his love for a psychedelic version of the Red Planet realms on display. A rocking, hypnotizing bassline is underscored with Jedi Style space emotions leading us into heavens of enjoyment. ‘Far Spirit’ is another big hypno-show containing the single most irritating Chain Reaction click of the year. Fortunately it is also packed with neatly covered-up minimal slices of soul. And then there is the divine ‘Ghosts in Space’ where dark minimal disco cycles à la Dj Pierre are transposed to the tech-house era and cut up with roaming echoes of distant ethnical voice samples, vocoders and the kind of tweeking minimal funk that’s usually the trademark of his mate Aubrey. ‘Krafty Action’ is aimed at the dance floor where its Chicago-loopism and fucked-up sound wizardry should cause general stir. ‘Robots’ wraps up with some additional spaced out deepness that brings back the golden days/daze of Detroit Techno. Sensational!
