Münster, Germany-based DJ Malente is a lover of party music, which is exactly what he gives us on this his second album on Unique Records. I mean, kicking off with a track called We Came to Party, how subtle is that? His brand of party music is a nice one though; there is straight-up disco in We Came to Party, The Fever, Funk the Rich and Mind Your Head, with the latter two featuring vocals by Rob Parissi sound-a-like Richard Kim; there is disco-house in Till I Die, Don't Stop and Highlife (featuring Stereo Deluxe's Strike Boys); there is bouncing ragga in Listen Up and Fire, slo-mo hiphop with chants in Phat Thai and drops of the West-London sound in Overkill. And The Law Is Wrong sounds like KC & the Sunshine Band on speed. The overall sound is simply delicious - warm, well-produced and, well, happy. It's a party record. Period.
Period? Not quite. There's a hidden track. And a rather rowdy one, too. A Nirvana-like processed guitar riff and a guy starts singing something about wanting to rock form the intro. Then, a fierce, uptempo ragga beat kicks in. A nice encore to an already quite excitingly funky par-tay.
