This is Lowgold's debut album, and buzz has started within the music business, especially after the wonderful single 'Beauty Dies Young'. 'Just Backward of Square' commences perfectly with a beautiful mellow lo-fi tune 'Golden Ratio', which makes you feel like you're setting off from a railway station for a long and exciting journey. With the melodic pace of a vintage steam engine 'Beauty Dies Young' makes its graceful but less than unnoticeable appearance - With beautiful scenery and an enthralling novel to dive completely in, the miles just pass by. Then a storm cloud engulfs the sky, and you can't help but get sucked into the dark and brooding skies of 'Mercury', which will be the band's next release. Lowgold have the ability to write classic guitar music but with the added extra of wonderful lryics. The album is not just one long journey of darkened indie guitar rock but a rollercoaster ride, with the highs of 'Counterfeit''s‰ guitar pop and lows of 'Into A Void' with minimalistic vocals with acoustic guitar and keyboard. Lowgold have actually created a collection of songs that just live and breathe sadness but the overall effect is uplifting. If Lowgold were photographers, you'd be standing in an exhibition of large black and white photos, but nothing too arty, just pictures of people - maybe you. A definite for the collection, just lending it from the library isn't good enough. One type of gold you can afford.
