'KEt.CHUP SUi.CiDE' is Linea 77's second album, after 1998's 'Too much happiness... makes kids paranoid'. The progression the band has gone through is obvious from the start. 'Too much happiness...' was a nice album, but this album is much better. That's mostly due to the production (Dave Chang), but also the improved songwriting capacities of the band. From the explosive opener 'Potato Music Machine' to the emotional 'Moka', every song is one of its own with nice melodies and choruses; easy sing-alongs. The style on this album doesn't differ that much from its predecessor. It are still the vocals of Nitto and Emo that put their stamp upon the sound of the band. The album ends with a cover of the Bangles' 'Walk like an Egyptian'. Nice, but I do like songs as 'Ketchup Suicide' and 'Tadayuki Song' more. Since appearances also count, the album contains a cd-rom part, which includes photos, screensavers and videos. And to crown it all, it includes 3 games (e.g. Ketchup Homicide; blast away at the band members!), programmed by the band themselves. So visually and musically this album is top-notch. Call it nu-metal. Call it post-hardcore. Call it whatever you want. I just call it a very nice beginning of the new year.
Oh, and don't forget to also read the interview we did with guitarist Paolo! Just scroll down to find it!
