When I saw this Spanish band putting their gear up on the stage during the A2A festival in Amsterdam, I didn't know what to expect. Their gear, besides the "normal" ingredients of bass, guitar and drums, included a trumpet, percussion, sampler, keyboards and a vibraphone. So I did not know if I was waiting for a pop-, a funk-, a nu-metal, a dance or a crossover band. It turned out to be all of that combined; it was a combination of nu-metal hooks, the excitement and swing of a funkband and 'in-your-face' loops similar to an acid dance-act like 808 State. After this steaming performance, I was really curious of how this mixture of styles would come over on CD. On the already three years old 'Electricdevotionmanual' this mixture isn't worked out that well, but you can still enjoy quite a good pile-on of funk, crossover, hip hop and nu-metal. If I was asked to give examples of bands they reminded me of, it would be a list as long as my arm. But here's an appetizer: picture members of Urban Dance Squad, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Beastie Boys, Korn and Jane's Addiction in one band and you still wouldn't have a full grasp of this band. And because the band comes from the south of Europe, the comparison with another band who mixed all sorts of styles into their music, Mano Negra, does not lie this far. Not exactly because of the music, but mainly because of the same groove and energy of the music and the feeling you get while listening to it. Because of their evolution I've seen on stage and because they are in process of recording a new CD, this band is something to look out for in the future. The excitement might just come out of Spain next year.
