Music isn't meant to bore people, and that's exactly what Justin Vollmar does most of the time. You might expect the boring part is a kind of gimmick: the artwork, a picture of him on the back — a shy and decent Justin — and the fact that he is a son of a preacher. But, truth be told, the music is the same as the whole package. He tries to give his own twist to the acoustic and presumably intimate songs. Like the clattering of metal at the end of 'The Light Was Awfully Fast,' or the extremely annoying silent stops on 'Grey Hearts. ' True, sometimes your knee starts to move up and down a little when you hear 'Susan, Did You Hear' and 'The Old Man's Coming Home,' but these are the up-tempo parts of Every Place Is Like Home, with the basic country tunes. After a few seconds, your knee isn't moving anymore. The only piece of success on this album is called 'How Far Can The Wise Man Spread His Wings,' where you find the intimacy he's trying to create, and some appropriate xylophone background sounds. But, furthermore, it really bores the hell out of you.
