A well-filled double disc and a simultaneously released DVD from the Dutch blues giant Julian Sas. All of this should surely satisfy no other than fans of white blues-rock. The new live release from Julian Sas follows up the successful release of his Raging River in less than six months. Julian and his blues band have gathered a huge following in a few years time, especially in the small blues scene of the Netherlands. This is probably one of the reasons for the record company to label him as Holland’s best guitar player, but how many blues fans can be wrong? It’s true that our blues giant is not an awful guitar player on stage, but making music takes more than just technical skills. The stage feels like home to Julian Sas. This is where he creates a suitable ambiance for his frayed sound landscapes. The many great guitar heroes, such as Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix and Walter Trout, inspired Julian Sas. The white man’s blues is electric and loud, but Sas is most of all a right-minded blues traditionalist. He is nothing like John Spencer’s Blues Explosion or R.L. Burnside. It would have been more appealing to a wider audience if dead guitar heroes and yards long guitar overexposures less obsessed him. However, I don’t think that fans of electric blues have a problem with the lack of adventurousness and want to give DeLIVEred a try anyway. You should stay miles away if you are looking for something more progressive than this is.
