Joseph Malik is a Scottish DJ and club promoter come singer-songwriter, whose voice was featured on Trüby Trio's ‘High Jazz’ (on the acclaimed DJ Kicks album by the German outfit) and Grand Unified's ‘Music Makes Me Feel This Way’ (on Hospital Records), after already having released tracks under various monikers on different labels (Mo'Wax, Response). On this, his first outing on the mighty Compost Records and appetizer for his forthcoming album, he gives us his semi-acoustic upbeat version of Bill Withers' ‘Take It All In And Check It All Out,’ plus two more tracks: ‘Futuristica’ (featuring Son of Ugly), and the original version of ‘Evil Things,’ of which a gospel mix is to be featured on the album. Malik's is a classic soul voice reminiscent of Withers, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, and in combination with his music, whether clubby like ‘Futuristica’ or laid back like ‘Evil Things,’ the man delivers a solid label debut and an enrichment for the already diverse Compost sound.
