Jazzanova are hot as hell in the breaks'n'beats area. They are considered the cream of the crop when it comes to shaping other people's work into that typical Jazzanova mould. So, following the example of their Austrian counterparts K&D they now have released a double cd containing their best works to date. Rumor has it they will sometimes spend up to half a year completing some remixes, a method that seems to bear fruit with topnotch remixes for 4 hero (amazing crossbreed of d'n'b and jazzy breaks'n'beats), Ian Pooley (already a classic), Ski (funky electro), Azymuth (loungy latin flavors) and Koop (by far the best remix of them all, with highly percussion-infused real bass jungleloops being interrupted by a Bjûrk-imitation singing sad things about love and life: Superb Stuff with capital S). Also we bump into classy reworks of Men from the Nile, Har-You Percussion Group, Soul Bossa Trio, Ursula Rucker and even the recently canonised Two-step wizard MJ Cole. But, on the downside, it all becomes a little bit too cosy and too fluffy with their vocal remixes of Incognito and U.F.O., while they should have avoided soiling their hands by coming up with a boring remix of Karma's classic, and it would seem also untouchable, 'High priestess'. But let not this lightly critical analysis misguide you: I've counted 14 gems out of 20, which is for no-one too bad an end result. But in the future they should avoid overindulging in that all too tasteful production sound, that just might attract the attention of art galleries and expensive restaurants and refrain from opening up too many cans of percussion. A fine garden Jazzanova have built but it could do with some weeding from time to time.
