From Groningen in the northeast of Holland, ska groovers Jammah Tammah have been taking in audiences all over The Netherlands and Europe. Listening to their new release U-Turn, it’s instantly clear why. Their ten- (!) piece ska orchestra plays a catchy and highly addictive blend of styles. Keeping things fresh, spicing up polkas, rock-steady, dub, and roots-reggae with a partying brass section and a good dose of fun, Jammah Tammah smartly avoid the risk that much of ska contents itself with: to rely on the well-known and obsolete, annoying, boring themes. With the sun shining brightly this summer, who wants to sit around and listen to black and gloomy tales from the hard side? Get some friends over, have some drinks, and get the party started. Jammah Tammah’s U-Turn will surely fill the dance floor and get the skankin’ going. With some clever programming you can choose your own set of up-tempo, danceable tunes or laid-back, head-nodding dub tracks. Dutch music has a talent for being an insult to my ears in way too many instances. There are some great exceptions too, though. Utrecht’s dub posse Human Rites or metal’s own After Forever, for example. And this one, in the field of ska. Jammah Tammah will keep injecting a lot of joy into crowds whenever, wherever. To enjoy the feeling of a summer ska party and bring out the sunshine in your home, go out and get your hands on this album. A superb, feel-good hit of this summer!
