Only 9 months after their last album 'Utonian_Automatic', their follow-up is already released. Here in Holland apparantly only as US import, but this record deserves more. On 'Utonian_Automatic' the main influence was Miles Davis' seventies-era: experimental jazz/rock fusion mixed with postrock (not that strange with Tortoise members in the band) was the outcome. Great album. The new album 'Who Stole The I Walkman?' has the same influences and much more. Except for the jazz and postrock you'll hear cheap drummachines, weird ambient drones, strange keyboardparts, chaotic improvisations, electro beats like Luke Slater made on his album 'Wireless', funky cut-up hiphop beats. It all sounds very weird, but it works! It's all melted together as if it was supposed to be like this all along. Dare I say the creation of a new genre? I do, I've never heard anything like it. They've created completely original music. Sure, the influences aren't new, but no one has ever made this music with such influences. And it maybe not always easy to listen to, but anyone with a bit of liking for experimental music should get this album.
