The recently released split from Dutch Hectic Records presents three underground screamo bands from the lowlands. In the Shade of Tomorrow sets foot ashore with the first five tracks on the album. After a small introduction for a few minutes, the initiating song 'Surroundead' immediately gives you the thrills with its aggressive noize. Also, the other four songs are extremely heavy for screamo purposes. Intermezzos of some small stories are included between all songs, which gives you the opportunity to relax — something I really appreciate. In the Shade of Tomorrow can be described as dark screamo with some metal influences.
Dawn of Awakening is more emotionally influenced when compared to both other bands on the split. Starting off with 'Nexus,' they show their capability of mixing heavy screamo with soft vocals containing messages of deep thoughts. The rushing screamo we are used to is definitely below its limits. Both songs 'Oxazepam' and 'De Vraag' are perfect examples of DOA's screamo-emo mixture. DOA can be measured with bands like Brazen or Botch, although they're less aggressive. Even influences of At The Drive-In have passed my eardrums.
Like the first band on the split, Darwin, the evolutionboys, also prove that people from the north of Holland are not that sober. The sound Darwin produce is more like tales from the dark side. Heavy guitar riffs in a way Slayer used to do it, mixed with hoarse voices full of emotion. It is not just screamo, which probably everybody can produce, but screamo with passion. Check this split of the Dutch underdogs.
