Perhaps some of you may have heard the slogan of Deepsend Records: "Sicker
than an AIDS clinic." Well, that is pretty much the best way to describe
this release from Germany's Impure. 'In Disrespect To Mankind' is ten tracks
of brutal death metal done to damn-near perfection. The album starts off
with an intro (conveniently called 'Intro') that helps you prepare for
what lurks on the remaining songs of the album. It is two minutes of slow,
crunchy, chugging riffage that breeds anticipation as the end of the track
draws near. And what is this anticipation ultimately met with?
Blunt force trauma! For the second track on this album, 'In Disrespect,'
blasts in, like America
invading an oil-wielding middle-eastern country. It attacks the listener
using swift cutthroat tactics, and continues with utter disregard for
human life, ensuring that no one goes unscathed. The bloody massacre
continues on throughout the album. Most songs keeping within the 2:30 and
3:30 range, Impure's breed of blasting brutal death metal never gets stale,
monotonous, nor mind-numbing. Every song offers a fresh layer of newly cut
meat for the listener to sink their teeth into. And just as the album came
in, so does it depart . . . with a slow crunching song. The once-again
conveniently titled 'Outro' appears to simply be 'Intro' played in reverse.
Which raises a few questions as to why the hell it can still sound so
great!
With their fellow stylists, Disavowed, Pyaemia, and Deeds Of Flesh, Impure
seems hell-bent on reviving and improving the great sound of 1990's American
death metal, previously mastered by such greats as Suffocation and Gorgasm.
It is very safe to say that they are on the right track. 'In Disrespect To
Mankind' completely blew me away, especially since it didn't get a great
deal
of hype or promotion.
So, if you're looking for some of the best brutal death metal that can be
heard these days, reach for this album. If you'd care to hear it for
yourself before buying it, download the song 'Incidious Malicious Breed'
available on the Impure website. And if that song alone doesn't capture
your attention, check the artwork. I've seen nothing better since 'Pierced
From Within.' All in all, 'In Disrespect to Mankind' is the contender for
best album of the year so far. Which should not be taken as a light
statement, considering we've seen new albums from Soilwork, The Crown, and
Lock Up!
