Together with Beatnik Filmstars and Boyracer, Hood were the British answer to the emerging American edgy lo-fi poprock back in the early 90s. Although Beatnik Filmstars and Hood are still making records, the whole scene is more dead than alive. After their debuut CD 'Linear Cable Traction' Hood moved away from the poprock sound to experiment more and more with electronica, tapes, and looping techniques. Surprisingly, 'Home Is Where It Hurts' sounds very poppy but sometimes moves in the direction of postrock bands like Labradford and Trans Am. Sometimes even with lots of dub influences. Even seven years after their smashing debut, Hood are able to design an interesting chilly musical landscape, consisting of strange loops, hallucinating vocals, and melodic sounding lo-fi guitars. Of a strange beauty.
