I admit that when I first heard the DJ name Harry the Bastard I imagined him being some bald-headed speed freak with a big collection of happy hardcore records from the days when Thunderdome was still big in the Lowlands. But that image couldn't have been further away from the truth. In fact Harry the Bastard is from Scotland, makes a living spinning deep house records and is reportedly a very nice lad too. In fact his series of Club H mix albums on Brooklyn based Statra Recordings is one of the most surprising deep house series around. On this volume three HtB starts off with a forgotten treasure that sets the mood instantly: Moon On Ice by Yello, from way back in 1987. Followed by some nice tunes like the excellent Karma remix of In My Lucid Dream by Cold Feet, Kugsarre by Nikkie D, the Atjazz mix of SQL Patrol by Summer Transport or the excellent Rhode Island by Powder Productions (on Glasgow Underground). Included also is one of the best nu-jazz tunes from this past summer: Granada by Slow Supreme on Scandinavian imprint Jazid Collective, and two Carl Craig remixes: the rework of Kenny Larkins Catatonic (on R&S) and his own classic Domina. Nice, nice, nice.
