It would seem that Swedish master-of-all-trades Hakan Lidbo changes his style like a chameleon changes colours. On Force Tracks Mister Prolific now comes up with Data 80. And, as you may have guessed, it is filled up to the brim with naïve synth melodies, sweet vocoders and ultra-poppy arrangements in the style of Daft Punk's latest album. This all may sound a bit camp and kitschy but soon after the first listening the gems emerged. 'No More Lies' is the absolute zenith, with its ultra-lite P-Funk electro-pop and outrageous text. 'Baby, I Can Forgive' and 'The Boy Who Grew Up To Be A Boy' are both extremely agreeable. The first is shamelessly poppy, while the latter is Transmat pushed through the glitch-mixer with pre-house electronics added for flavour. 'Space Age Love' sees Kraftwerk and Moroder taken on in Nu-Romantic style, while 'Always On My Mind' is tacky '80s vocoder-pop that successfully brings together the tremolo of Air and the tongue-in-cheek of Daft Punk. 'Never Trust' is ambient with vocoders inna R'n'B style, while 'Faded Photograph' ends in beauty with nostalgic tech-house. Another fine job done without pretentions by mister Lidbo. And with 'No More Lies' he definitely has a potential hit on his hands. Go Hakan, Go!
