In 1989 Guttermouth was formed in Huntington Beach, California. That year 5 guys decided to start and play songs together. Since then their recipe for music hasn't really changed, but their line up has. Although the singer is still the cynical Mark Adkins with his different ways of singing (clean, screaming and talking). The only major change in more than 10 years is that Jamie Nunn switched from drums to bass guitar and their new drummer is Tyrone Smith, formerly with Jughead's Revenge. Enough said about the band's line up, what about the new album? The music is still as on 'Musical Monkey' which means punk, melodic, crazy and funny. Some tracks have a down to earth punk style such as 'Can I borrow some ambition'? This one reminded me a bit of the old days of the New Bomb Turks. Other tracks have a folk influence, or acoustic interludes and even organs that back the music up. The track 'Looking good is all that matters' is really a good example of a classic Guttermouth sing a long song. Nevertheless the music may not be as original as in the nineties but it is still entertaining. The only disappointment from the new album is that it only lasts for 30 minutes. Anyway, if Guttermouth is playing a gig near you, go and see them live, they now how to give a good show.
