Slayer, AC/DC, Bad Religion... Girls Against Boys? After four years, GvsB return with You Can't Fight What You Can't See. They're back on an indie label after a trip to Geffen, where they were nearly swallowed by the business machinations surrounding Universal/Vivendi. This explains the delay between the new album and predecessor Freak*On*Ica, because in all other respects Scott McCloud's question "Hey pussycat, what's new?" sung in All The Rage, can be answered with: "Not much."
But like the bands mentioned at the beginning of this review, GvsB manage to squeeze the last drop of quality out of their limited reservoir of ideas. Especially on the opening tracks, the heavy staccato bass rhythms and Scott McCloud's cynical (Can McCloud sound not cynical?) observations about big city life lead to a smile of recognition. Towards the end, the album loses some momentum, but by that time we've already concluded that our namesake still make the kinda muzik we like.
