The Whole Scene Going? If you are part of that loser pack leaving the club, you will be missing out on some crunchy Powerpop with a splash of Punk thrown in. Then again, Girlpope play their instruments so hard and loud, I bet the non-believers will be running back in no time. From the opening 'Indy 500' right through to 'Too much', all of the songs are compressed in short, but sparkly pop gems. They do wear their influences on their sleeves, the Who and Big Stars being obvious examples. Also add some Buzzcocks, and you know what you can expect. Pounding drums and buzzing guitars, this is fun and uncomplex pop music. But despite it all, they carry it off with youthful energy, showing lots of promise. And if you let the record play after the last song 'Too Much' has finished, you get a bonus song 'I Was a Teenage Jesus' with German lyrics. Girlpope has me converted!
