The love for the music from another band can be a real inspiration, but sometimes it leads to shameless plagiarism. In the case of the Italian band Giardini di Miro (GDM), Mogwai is the object of their admiration. Not a bad choice of course; Mogwai's music is among the prettiest of the last five years. GDM produces some good songs with those blueprints, but sometimes it resembles Mogwai that much, and one wonders when Mogwai will sue GDM for pure copying. This album starts with 'A New Start', and if someone would have told me it was an outtake from 'Come On Die Young', I would have believed him or her immediately. It's just a damn good song. Just like Mogwai they decided to put some vocals on, but guest singer Matteo from Yuppie Flu ruins 'PetLlife Saver' completely with his nasal voice. The music of the song is quite good, but I don't understand why they let that pathetic excuse for a singer put their music down. The band themselves mention names as Low, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, and Velvet Underground as influences, but it all comes down to the above-mentioned Scottish booze-drinking band: Mogwai. GDM's music is from a fairly high level, but the plagiarism is embarrasing.
