Whatever happened to volume 1 may stay a riddle forever but one thing's for certain: Planet E is releasing like a bunch of madmen these days. This brand new collection, brilliantly mixed -considering the downright unmixabilty of most contributions- by Detroit veteran Mike Clark aka Agent X, sums up the various paths the label has been travelling these last few years and features the more than delicious talents of Carl Craig, Moodymann, Chaz Vincent, Mark Bell, Alton Miller and Common Factor. It's pretty hard to pick out faves but Chaz Vincent ( the unreleased 'Human Powered Flight' ), Agent X himself, Recloose, Kirk Degeorgio ( who delivers, after years of jazz and softfunk experimenting, an outstanding techno remix for Common Factor ) and Craig's own Paperclip People jump out of the supertalented pack, but frankly every track is highly enjoyable, the pace is relaxed and it's all packed with soul and years of expertise in the frontranks of techno and house. And on top of all this beauty they've just released a sampler containing all the tracks of the cd that haven't been released on vinyl yet. So what ya waiting for? Go and raid that recordstore now!
