There we have it, the sophomore full-length by Geoff Farina! Once again without the help of his Karate-buddies, and stripped down to just guitar and voice. And once again I'm not so sure if I'm so enthusiastic about his solo-efforts. It's definitely not Geoff's voice, which stands out of millions. I dare to say that he has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. It still sounds so tremendously soothing and honest! The thing that I'm not so crazy about however, is the fact that there's more room for his guitarparts. With Karate you already know he's a virtue at playing the instrument, but simultaneously keeping the perfect song in mind. With his solo stuff on the other hand, there seems to be no reason for holding back. The result is a jazz-based singer/ songwriting thing, that's full with those technical fucking around. Even more than with the last Karate album, which might be too jazzy for me as well. It's subtle, but still... I can't help to associate it with those schooled stuck-ups who play in those snobby jazz-venues, where they ask too much for a simple beer. Ah, what the hell am I talking shit about? Geoff at least has the creativity to write his own songs, letting his heart speak and not caring for the people who are impressed by his technical abilities. Geoff is the man! And this record will be the soundtrack for those hungover Sunday afternoons, when I try to consume by breakfast. This is quite beautiful, people!
