A forerunner of a proper remix album (shortly to be reviewed on these e-pages), this essential 12", with remixes from Vienna's finest is another overwhelming treat from Germany's quality stronghold Compost. Peter Kruder, whose solo remixing carrier by now seems an accomplished fact, does things to 'Tel Aviv' that rank him once and for all in the gallery of the greatest. He digs up a crossbreed of eighties electronic pop and dubby percussive house in the vein of the Perlon label or Solomon & Harris' Freaks project, all spiced up with funky acid noises and minimal voice-samples and topped off with some unbelievable synthstrings. Kraftwerk meets Jamaica, so to say. Stereotyp, clearly undaunted by K's previous show of force, respond with a melancholic electro/breaks workout that has a seriously grand breakdown and tons of electro-hop influences leading the funky ways. So exactly what do you get when you cross a German with an Austrian? Classy and innovative music that's not seeking boundaries, but laying them.
