Eric Martin was the singer of Mr. Big, of To Be With You infamy. I'm Goin' Sane is his fourth solo album, the first after the breakup of Mr. Big. The good news is that nothing as atrocious as To Be With You can be found on I'm Goin' Sane, although listening to the "sensitive" Bigger Man is no pleasure.
And that's about it for the good news. I'm Goin' Sane is an excercise in blandness, putting one paint-by-numbers MOR rock song after the other. Only opener My Disease escapes the "instantly forgettable" label. Martin's production is flat, the guitar work seems to be inspired by a "40 Easy To Learn Rock Guitar Tunes" study book, and the vocals are well executed, but soulless. All in all, I'm Goin' Sane sounds too sane. Who wants an album that sounds like a Tuesday at the office?
