I won't try to hide my sympathy for Elf Power. The band from Athens, Georgia surprises us every year with a new album containing the same ingredients: Solid and compact pop songs that sound like Grandaddy dipping their fingers into indie pop. Elf Power is a part of the famous Elephant 6 family, which is a (near-) guarantee that it's a good band. Well, I can guarantee that it's true in this case. Their latest Creatures finally achieved good distribution — of interest, because the last two albums (The Winter Is Coming and A Dream In Sound, also recommended) were released in a very irregular way. The eleven songs in 36 minutes are all very strong, and because of the short playing time, the repeat button of your CD player is easily found. An extra compliment for the rock-ier parts this time: very nice distortion on Everlasting Scream and Things That Should Not Be. Elf Power is a band that's not ever really going to change, because what they're doing is simply good, and they seem to enjoy it. Hence the sympathy from my side — what more can I say?
