A definite must-buy

After delivering critically acclaimed albums such as Inside the Machine (selling over 30,000 copies) and absolute major anthems like 'The Nine' and 'Planet Dust', Bad Company have become one of the biggest names in drum'n'bass today. Now Fresh, Vegas, D-Bridge & Maldini (in the past working together as Future Forces) present their third full-length (on quadruple vinyl and a double CD of which the second CD is mixed by Bad Company themselves with bonus cuts) on their own BC-Recordings label.
Although they are known for their rough, post-apocalyptic sound Bad Company don't stick to one particular style on this album. 'Mo'Fire' is taking us back to the old school jungle vibes with killer ragga vocals by MCs Navigator and Spyda. Unfortunately the 4LP doesn't contain the BC remix of Rawhill Kru's 'Start the Fire'; the vinyl release everybody's waiting for is scheduled for January 2003 though. The angry buzz of 'The Hornet' introduces the BC-trademark sound: dirty pounding basslines on top of a bouncy melody and heavy beats that slam you in the face is what you get here. More of this in 'Dogsploitation', a rework of BC's own 'Dogs on the Moon' and Mampi Swift's 'Blaxploitation', the heavy 'Torpedoes' and 'Snowcats'. The mighty 'Dosage' starts off with progressive synths and eastern percussion and turns into a deep, hypnotizing smasher, which makes it a devastating opener for the mix-cd.
With the fantastic 'Wednesday' BC takes us into another direction: pitched-up R&B vocals combined with guitar licks and a dubby bass are making this one irresistible for the dance floor. 'Dr. Schevago' (what's in a name?) and finishing track 'Jellybean' are even going for respectively the latin vibe and the disco touch. Not something you'd expect when you pick up a BC record!
With this 3rd album Bad Company prove they can handle different styles of the drum'n'bass spectrum. Shot Down on Safari is definitely a must-buy!
