Ralph Lamb, Adam Phillips and Andy Ross of Dust certainly know how to translate utter misery and desolation to music. Their self-titled LP captures acute melancholy and longing in a catchy, early-'70s pop way. Wobbly guitars, plaintive melodies (delivered by Phillips' husky, unguarded manner) and slight country-western blues twang add to a general feeling of lachrymose lounging, making this the ultimate guilty listening pleasure for those who love festering in a dark corner thinking sad thoughts.
