How many rapmetal-fans (read: Limp Bizkit-fans) do know or remember Downset? A few years ago they were one of the best, upcoming rapmetal-bands. Future looked bright for this Los Angeles-based crew. But unfortunately, personal problems and (most of all) problems with their record label, made an end to the success of Downset in the underground circuit. Due to these problems it took the band a few years longer than planned to record this 'Check your people', the third album and follow up to 'Do we speak a dead language?'. In the meantime vocalist Rey Oropeza joined DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill on the track 'Heart of a Rebel' of Sen Dog's rapmetal band SX-10, but that was the last sign of life. And now, finally, Downset's back! And how! These guys still know how to play rapmetal, albeit influenced by hardcore. Opener 'Fallen off' is one of the darkest, 'boiling' rapmetal songs I've ever heard. Vocalist Rey raps/sings/screams as of old. Guitarists Ares and Rogelio Lozano complete the intense sound with excellent playing. And while listening to the anthem 'Together', I must conclude Downset's right. They're back and 'it never meant as much as it does right now!'
