Fight is the latest album by the German hard rock legend Doro. This feisty little lady has been active in the music business for well over 20 years. First as frontlady with Warlock, and later building up a successful solo career.
According to the bio included with the promo CD, Doro and her band entered the studio with the motto, "As powerful as possible, as natural as necessary." And they lived up to their resolution very well!
The album starts right in your face with some primordial screaming and a heavy nu-metal-like riff. For a second you might think you've accidentally wound up with a Machine Head CD, but the moment Doro starts singing, all doubts disappear: This is definitely a Doro album, but heavier and rawer than anyone would expect from her.
Fight contains twelve songs, most of which are heavy rockers. In these songs, Doro combines classic hard rock from the eighties with more modern influences, like grunge, and also some touches of nu-metal.
Among the highlights of this album is the tough-as-nails title track Fight, which was written for German boxer Regina Halmich. Then there is Salvaje, a powerful rocker with a Spanish chorus, and Descent, a duet with Type O Negative's Peter Steele. (Whatever happened to those guys, anyway?)
With this album, Doro probably won't win many new fans, as the glory days of classic hard rock are pretty much over. Nevertheless, Fight proves that Doro is still very much alive and kicking. Hell, the woman's got bigger balls than all of Bon Jovi combined! So, do yourself (and your dad) a favor and pick up this CD!
