Vibrations is the brand new, first issue of what will become a series of groovy, disco house tunes on Belgian label N.E.W.S. . This nice 2cd compilation features huge recent hits like "Mine to Give" by Photek (in the David Morales happy mix) and "Spaced Invader" by Hatiras (in the King Unique club mix) next to classic tunes like "Needin' U" by David Morales (in an updated 2001 anthem mix) and "Positive Education" by Slam. Also some personal favorites, like the ever so cool "Naïve song" by french Madonna producer Mirwais, Stevie Wonder's "All I do" re-work by the Cleptomaniacs, "Sunday Shoutin'" by Johnny Corporate (in the Erick's Morillo Subliminal mix) and a balearic Silicone Soul with "The Answer" (in the Miguel 'Migs' naked vocal remix) next to, last but not least, crappy tunes like "Touch me" by Rui Da Silva and Didier Sinclair's "Lovely flight". Maybe this release should've been limited to one cd instead of two, which could have resulted in a fantastic groovy vibrating compilation full of vocals, filtered noises and happy beats, leaving out some of the below standard tunes. But all things said this remains a compilation which gives you the opportunity to get some very nice remixes of wanted tunes, preparing you for the forthcoming summer holidays while driving to work in cold mornings. And "if that don't make you happy, I don't know·"
Also helping us to survive the prolonged cold season is the second Eskimo compilation called "Rive Eskimo - Natural music vaporisor". This mix-cd kicks off with old school E.P.M.D.'s "It's time to party" and continues with a fresh selection of dance, funk, disco and pop gems going right back into history with Danny Krivit's re-edit of the grandaddy of club music MFSB's "Love is the message". We stay in the 70's with funky swinger "Get up" by Vernon Burch (putting Dee-lite's "Groove is in the heart" into a historical perspective) arriving in the poppy eighties with "Sucker for a pretty face" by West Phillips and "Bakerman" by Laidback, only interluded by last year's daft disco tune "Electronic funk" by M1. This seamless mix continues with early nineties house tracks "I called you" by Lil Louis & the world (you just gotta love that sax !) and vocal tune "If you really love someone" by Liberty City. A more recent deep house tune by Eric Kupper's K-scope project "Latin blues pt1" prepares the way for salsa guy Ray Baretto (Acid), James Brown (Payback), Bill Withers (You got the stuff) and the '75 cheesy, but oh so lovely "why did you do it" by one-hit wonder Stretch. Then the mix slows down with kitschy Max Berlin (elle & moi), synth-electro "Breakin' in" by Carlos Perron ending it with "Up with People" by Lambchop (in a Zero 7 dub mix). The sampladelic revival continues: again thumbs up for the Eskimo crew!
