This compilation already made history in my hood. As a cd-only collector (shame on me) I'm witnessing for the very first time vinyljunkie friends lining up to lend this release because, ladies and gentlemen, this very special third cd-release by The Classic Music Company features unreleased tracks by Nail, Tim Shumaker & Derrick L. Carter & an unreleased Carter remix of "Bushes" by Perlon's Marcus Nikolai. For all you vinylspotters out there I'm happy to inform you that this compilation features the slightly fantastic "First Re-creation version 1.1". After all those years of depending on mixtapes full of unreachable vinyl music this cd-outcast is finally able to give something back to his usual tape dealers.
Full of vocal gems this release kicks off with the Nu pschidt "Boompty Boomp theme" first of four by housemeister Derrick L. Carter to continue with Losoul's laidback tune "Lies (watch your lift)". Another laidback tune (Nail's "Slap my Ass") and it's "Talk about happiness" on the dancefloor with Rob Mello to smoothly arrive at the beautiful Freeform Five "Reform edit" of Isolée's "Beau Mot Plage". Live drums, percussion, guitars, bass, flute, alto sax, keyboards and five chorus voices turn this track into funk heaven. The funk stays with us throughout the rest of the album. If this compilation would only contain track 6, the aforementioned remix of "Bushes" it still would be worth buying. Classic not only knows how to release top tunes but also how to pick out the labels to licence from that's for sure!
There's no point in writing any further if you know that after track 7 ("She's coming to save us" by Tim Shumaker) one still has to enjoy another track by Rob Mello, two by Carter ("A Hope" and "What happened to the music?" in collaboration with Oneiro) & as cherry on the cake "Swimmin'Wit'Sharks" by Gemini. My favorite compilation of 2000 so far and an absolute must for every self-respecting cd-only house addict. Hurray for the Classic crew!
