OH! MY! GOD! What the hell happened to Dislocated Styles!
About 5 years ago I got a tape from a friend in Hawaii with a few songs by a band called Dislocated Styles on it. It was great music; the band mixed (and still mixes) a lot of styles, combining it to a sunny cocktail of great music (the same type of music as Dog Eat Dog used to play). They had (and still have) a dj and a keyboard player in their line-up. I remember listening to songs like 'Bring it back' from one of their first, independent releases. It was great to hear, and at that moment I thought by myself: 'this band's got to be signed by a major label'. Now, five years later, the band has indeed been signed by a major label. But in those five years, a lot of things change. The music business changes; bands come and bands go. New styles come, and then they go. Listening to Dislocated Styles now, is listening to a band that could have blown things up, if only they were signed by a label 5 years earlier. So unfortunately, 'Pin the tail on the honkey' comes to late to be of any use. Okay, I must admit this sixpiece knows how to play tight and how to write songs. But in those five years, it's nothing that special anymore.
So I guess nothing happened to Dislocated Styles. After all those years, they're still that great crossoverband that knows how to play (listen to their current single 'Fire in the hole' for example). Unfortunately we've heard this type of music a million times in the past years. Which makes me disappointed.
