Dave Angel has consistently been on the forefront of the techno movement during the last ten years. From countless DJ-appearances (an example is to be found on last year's Trust the DJ's DA01 or, at least once a year within 50 miles from wherever you may live), producing a few albums, dozens of 12"es and even more remix-duties to maintaining a homogeneous sound and a vision of his own on techno music for a decade, at the same time defining a warmer sounding techno-sound for the mid-nineties rave generation and nearly creating a genre on his own (tech-funk). Not to mention his label Rotation being one of the more consistent players in the scene.
Trustthedj.com presents an unmixed selection of tracks from 1994-2001. Remixes of Model 500's 'I Wanna Be There' and Ken Ishii's 'Extra' apply for a "classic" nomination, tracks that are as representative for what techno stands for as legendary institutes as Tresor or Fuse are. Stompers include a.o. reworks of Jamie Anderson's 'Dolphins' and MLO's 'Samarkand'. Whizzed up, but melodic. And you recognise a Dave Angel drum fill when you hear one, right? Some tracks explore non-techno territories while maintaining the deep, warm soulful techno-vibe. James' 'She's a Star' originates from indie/rock territory, but the tune still gets the Dave Angel funk injection, DJ Krust's 'Maintain' is a nice hybrid of techno & drum&bass, Baz' 'Believers' a surpringsly joyous house workout.
Something for the fans who want to complete their collection, as Dave says "I decided to do a compilation of my own remixes because I wanted to show another side to my production and give people something they may never have heard before."
