Making laptops sound like pure rockin’ entertainment is difficult. Kid 606 does it, amongst a few other. But making electronic music sound as Dat Politics does is quite another thing. Plugs Plus is the fourth records of this Lille based trio. It is also there most eclectic one. Ranging from fast pounding drum computers with new wave synths and basslines to hectic computer noise, Dat Politics is taking the deconstruction of popmusic seriously. Layers of noise, poppy sounds, weird basses, casio drumbeats, dadaistic vocals are mixed in almost a random matter. Resulting in a few popsongs were you can dance to and a whole bunch of semi-arty glitchy bleeps. But it is the combination of both that makes Plugs Plus worthwhile. The normal with the absurd, melody with chaos, sweet danceable songs with weird lyrics (‘If you want to pass our class / You will have to show your ass’) and sudden noise eruptions. On Plug Plus Dat Politics are assisted by Blectum From Blechdom, Kid 606, Lesser, Felix Kubin, Matmos and Bevin Kelley, in their quest for the future of electronic popmusic. Exploring the outer limits of pop without crossing the thin line of melody. A successful quest.
