Great. A CD featuring a Japanese singer called Coppe' (no, the extra apostrophe isn't a typo) working together with the likes of Plaid and DJ Vadim should be an, admittedly curious, treat for lovers of that fine adventurous electronica thing, right? Well, not quite. "Peppermint" should be filed with great zest and force in that part of your collection labelled "Muzak for Hipsters - aka Lounge" and never, ever be seen near a Ninja Cuts disk. To be fair, though, as far as Lounge goes, this CD isn't half bad. There's nothing here that could possibly rub anyone the wrong way, all the tracks are equally slick and pleasant sounding, and even if you have a distaste for vocals, it's extremely easy to digest. A bit too easy, in my opinion: even though the execution of the beeps, the beats and the ooh-aah's (that's about the extent of the vocals) is immaculate, after a while you're left wondering where it's all going, or rather, if it's going anywhere at all. Perhaps I shouldn't be asking myself this, though, and just enjoy this collection of candy-coated Hello Kitty-isms, playful loops and saccharine beats for what it is: finely crafted background music for the chill-out room.
