This is actually a split-cd featuring two British bands, Sunfactor and Carver, of which the first is clearly the band with the most promising future. It wouldn't do Sunfactor injustice if they were called the 'younger Idlewild', although perhaps at the same time that may not be true at all. Their first song, "Forget You", is a cracker with a great opening guitar riff, and is a bit deceiving as it might lead you to think they are a loud, punk-ish kind of band. There are two more songs featured on this EP; "Nothing Means Anything" is quite soft and slow, only to become a little louder and faster towards the end, and "Glad To See You're Not Dead" is simply a beautiful slow track, also only becoming a little bit louder towards the end (and that without losing the magic of the track). It might be a good thing to remember the name Sunfactor. As for Carver, it's not that they are no good and would be better off not existing, but it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to keep rehearsing in their bedrooms for a little while longer. They have got the great ideas for tracks, but simply don't expand on them a bit more. The B-Side "To Cathedral Town", for example, begins very promising with a nice guitar riff but very soon, like the other two songs, turns into a song just dragging along with whiney vocals and music that is simply not very interesting. It's all been done before, so in order to stand out in the crowd a little more, they will simply have to think a little bit more about those few great ideas they put into their songs, and create a little bit more of their own sound instead of sounding just like everybody else.
