They've been putting something in the water up there in Scandinavia. Some dark and mysterious power seems to have taken over, indelibly stamping wonderful and wonderfully silly little pop melodies into our subconscious. Initially, Caesars Palace (There's no apostrophe.) sound like your average powerpop combo: catchy melodies, hooky choruses, and a production that's almost - but just almost - too bloody clean and soulless. However, 'Cherry Kicks', released a year and a half ago in the band's native Sweden and now finally finding its welcome way to us, is a sly little devil in disguise, its harmonies and ditties becoming permanently entwined with strands taken straight from your DNA after a mere one or two listens. These guys have learned straight from the Book of Benny and Björn. Infusing irresistible little pop nuggets with just the right amount of raucous punk spirit, 'Cherry Kicks' is a late, yet welcome addition to this summer's pool party CD listening pile. Let your hair down, slap on that suntan lotion. The last one in the water's a loser! Joyous, carefree, bloody irritating. Irritatingly good, that is. The bastards.
